Soundcheck: A Survey on Mental Health in the Canadian Music Industry
ADVANCE is proud to support The Unison Fund, SOCAN, and Revelios as they partner to launch a study to help better understand mental health challenges in the Canadian music industry.
This survey is the first of its kind in Canada, seeking to collect valuable input and better understand the experiences, attitudes, and opinions of those working in the music industry. The multiple-choice survey gathers information on demographics, mental health experiences, work environment, social factors, and other aspects that affect overall well-being.
It’s important for members of the Black community to participate in the fully anonymous Soundcheck research survey on mental health in the Canadian music industry for several key reasons:
Representation: Black voices and experiences in the music industry, particularly regarding mental health, are often underrepresented. By participating, Black community members can ensure their unique challenges, perspectives, and needs are heard and addressed.
Cultural Relevance: Mental health issues can manifest differently in different communities due to cultural, social, and historical factors. By sharing their experiences, Black participants can help shape mental health strategies that are culturally appropriate and responsive to the specific needs of their community.
Addressing Systemic Barriers: Black individuals in the music industry may face unique forms of discrimination, marginalization, and racial trauma that contribute to mental health struggles. Their participation in this survey is critical to identifying and addressing these systemic barriers within the industry.
Influence on Future Programs: The data collected can influence future mental health programs and policies in the Canadian music industry. Ensuring Black perspectives are included means these initiatives will be more inclusive and effective in supporting diverse artists and professionals.
Community Empowerment: By participating in the survey, Black community members have the opportunity to take an active role in shaping the future of mental health care in their industry. This empowerment can foster greater awareness and advocacy for mental health within the community.
The involvement of the Black community will help ensure that the survey's findings are more reflective of the entire industry's diversity and that mental health support is designed with inclusivity and equity in mind. This is a chance for you to use your voice and inspire meaningful change.
